Reverend Archimandrite Georges Michel Bakar
He graduated from the Patriarchal College then joined St. Anne's Seminary and Holy Spirit University in Lebanon. He became a member of El Prado's community in Lyon, France, where he obtained a Bachelor degree in Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1973. He was assigned to work at the Patriarchal College in1974 and became its Director in 1978.
Achievements
He introduced the High Level English language in the studies’ prospectus.
He turned the ground floor in the College building into classrooms for the rising number of students.
He repaired the basketball and football courts and the playgrounds of the kindergarten and primary sections.
He developed the College buses’ service to ease the students’ commute to school.
He established two buildings one in 1989 and the second one 1991. These building were dedicated to the use and study of computers. In 1984, a curriculum in computer has been offered to the students.
He introduced many new techniques and methods to all areas of the education at the College and follows the most up-to-date development technology such as the Internet.
During his directorship, the College ranked at the top of all educational institutes in Abdeen Borough in most area and in public certification. In 1992 the college ranked second, third and fifth in Secondary Education (Thanaweya Ama) at the level of the Republic Of Egypt. In 2000 the College ranked fifth in the Republic of Egypt.
Awards and Recognitions
His Beatitude the Patriarch Maximos V Hakim has honored and rewarded Rt. Rev. Georges several times. In 1995, he elevated him to the rank Archimandrite. In 1998, he awarded him the Golden Patriarchal Medal (Orachaleem Cross) on the occasion of his silver Priestly jubilee and for his unlimited services in the field of education.
In the celebration of the “Feast of Private Education” held in 2000, Dr. Hussein Kamel Bahaa El-Din, the Minister of Education, presented to Father Georges a medal and a certificate of excellence as one of the leaders of private education in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Archimandrite Georges is still diligently and untiringly working to further the educational process at the Patriarchal College, in Cairo, and producing prepared, educated, and responsible citizens.
